Thanks for the prompt reply Eric. Would it be helpful if I were to run some more tests to try to narrow down the problem? I think that I still have access to the data.

I was copying the emails from the Yahoo server and converting them to .pdf. Aid4Mail was not the only tool that I had used but the only one to show the dramatic slow down that I described in my origin ...
