Hi guys.
Your an investigator and you come across a phone which your are to investigate. you take the battery out and you realise that the sticker that the IMEI number is on has been scratched off, you feel suspicius that the phone has a cloned IMEI number, is there any way of finding out if a mobile phone has a cloned IMEI? any thoughts?

I may have to bow to someone with greater knowledge…..
but I think the answer is….sort of lol
The IMEI can reveal the make, model, date and country of manufacturer
Your best bet if you think it's cloned is to go to somewhere like NumberingPlans on t'internet (
You need to register for the site, but it may help you.
Hope this helps
You can find the IMEI of many (most?) handsets by entering *#06# on the keyboard. If the IMEI printed on the phone has been obliterated this was, presumably, done for some purpose the most likely being to hide the phone's identity. Changing a phone's IMEI is worth five years in the UK.
Try to find a software tool called MobileIdent. Its a database that lets you do reverse lookups on the IMEI number and gives you the make model etc of the phone assigned to it as well as full details about the capabilities of the phone. Also useful for IMSI and ESN/FCC-ID as well
