SIM card tel number

Post Posted: Wed May 02, 2012 11:39 pm

Hi all,

I have SIM card and I examine it using XRY 6.2.1 and in the extraction it doesn’t show the SIM card tel number. Is there any tool or code like the IMEI code that will show me the tel number of the SIM card instead of calling the service provider.

Kind regards,
Maitha

No. Unfortunately that is the only definite way of getting the telephone number from a SIM card.

Sometimes you will get what is called MSISDN records, which can contain the SIM card telephone number, but this is a user editable field, so you can't rely on it.

You just have to get your IMSI and contact the service provider i'm afraid.

Maitha

Quite often users do not know how to access the SIM EF-MSISDN through the handset and there are many who record their own mobile number in the handset phonebook or SIM EF-ADN (phonebook).

Also, if this is a Vodafone SIM card, they dont usually yield the telephone number.
I hope I am correct in stating that even if you got the number back it may not be the actual number being used.
Telephone number on an 02 SIM, for example may not be used by the owner as he has brought his old Vodafone number with him when he switched companies.
the number of a Vodafone driven handset can be gained by dialling *#100# then press the green key, the number will be displayed on the handset and does not register as a call

I wasn't aware the original question by the OP was operating in that arena of making network use of the (U)SIM but bigjon has a point. If actual tests are permitted with the (U)SIM, then putting the (U)SIM into a clean handset and dialling a known number that provides CLI can also identify the MSISDN. DO NOT allow the called number to be answered (directed to voicemail or to allow the receiver to be lifted or answer).

A pre-read of the SIM to check any data populated in EFLND should be performed

A pre-read of the USIM to check any data populated in EFOCI should be performed

An after read of both to see if the test number has been included in either EF etc.

There are issues associated with any on air tests that of changes to the radio network network EF files etc in (U)SIM and obviously the issue of incoming calls and texts and activities associated with pro-active SIM should also be considered.

But all things being equal that if the call test is allowed under polices, practices and procedures (cases eg terrorism, security, abduction etc) then the above may help or *#100# is another option if it is, as bigjon mentions, a Vodafone SIM.

None of the above provides a consent, authorisation or advocacy to perform the task in a particular or any type of case. It is a suggested task raised as an observation dependent upon the obligations encumbent relevant to the OP.
