Anti-virus recommendations for forensic workstations

Post Posted: Mon Feb 18, 2013 2:00 pm

My license is up for renewal for the the Norton that shipped on one of my forensic workstations, and I'm probably going to replace it with something else.

What are you using for anti-virus and anti-malware on your workstations? I want something that is easy to configure to ignore my evidence, cache, and temporary drives but will still protect the system drive and allow me to run virus scans against files I export from a case.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

For me ESET is second to none. I am currently using Smart Security v6 and it is hands down the best security product I have used to date. Before I was using Panda which is also good.

We use F-Prot Corporate ($50 to license up to 10 computers per year) and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro ($24.95 lifetime license). For the latter, you can often get it for about $15 shipped from Newegg when it is on special. The nice thing is it is a one-time license fee good for life.

We have recommended Microsoft Security Essentials to our home and business clients; it is free up to 10 computers.

We also recommend and use Microsoft Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET).

Personally Viper or Avast Pro never had issues with either of these pieces of software always offer top notch services.
