Hello,

I'm looking to test some techniques in recovering data from a mobile telephone memory chip, in preperation for a university project next year, but can't find any way of obtaining a test image to do so. I can't afford the equipment myself to extract and take a dump from a chip.

Would anyone have this resource? The model and make of phone the image is from doesn't matter as I'd just like to play around. Many thanks!

any specific requirement on the flash chip imaging technique?

do you need it to be a chip off dump?
is it fine if it's done using JTAG?
what about something done with UFED?

i don't have a test subject myself, but if i find something around i'll let you know.

as of now i'm doing some (discouraging) tests with flasher boxes but i'm using my own phone, which stores personal data.. so i can't share )

It seems, then, that a useful sub- or side-project would be to create such test images. Perhaps it would be useful with a specification (or just a wish-list) of different setups that should be covered – sending/receiving stuff, photos, whatnot – and people who have the time, the equipment and the inclination might help, alone or in groups.

Perhaps also a few words on what it is that makes the images over at DigitalCorpora.org unsuitable – though perhaps thats mainly intersting for the cell-phone forensic novices, such as me. (To my own eyes, any test image that is unaccompanied by documentation how it was produced, and what it is intended to test, is more or less useless, but I assume that that's not the only reason.)

I am not sure if you received some help but I can let you have some old nokia .pm images to play with that were used on my training courses dealing with extraction and harvesting of physical data back in 2006/7.

Unfortunately my update current stock is used for current training purposes and the files sizes are huge.
