I have a sad situation here and I'm reaching out to see if anyone can assist.

A work colleague lost her husband recently who was hit by a car while cycling, his phone was partly damaged and she has asked me for assistance to recover personal photo's and the like from the phone.

The buttons don't work but plugging the phone is brings it up and the touch screen works just fine, however the phone is pass code locked.

It's a Nokia Luma 630 RM-977

This is a Windows smart phone and I know there are issues with the level of support these phones have from the traditional tools but I'm hoping someone has successfully bypassed the pass lock on these before. UFED Touch doesn't have passcode bypass supported for any Lumia models on the list so I'm not hopeful but thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks folks.

We have bypassed lock codes on Lumias via JTAG. The other option is obviously Chip Off.

I believe the 630 series has recently been added for JTAG

JTAG extraction will bypass the passcode.

UFED has released support for SMS and call log decoding. XRY has also just released decoding for apps such as WhatsApp and Facebook.

If it is just images you are after, UFED holds profiling for the file system for JTAG dumps. Alternatively, if you image the flash dump EnCase will interpret the file system and you can carve out the images that way.

Thanks for the advice peoples, I did notice that UFED had listed JTAG decoding as a possiblity.

I don't have the necessary hardware to perform a JTAG but under the circumstances the boss may allow me to buy the hardware needed.

If you were in the UK I would loan you my Riff Box which is collecting dust right now. Its not exceptionally expensive anyhow.

I hope you manage to get the data for your friend. )
