Does where the software was made make a difference? Recently one of my fellow students sent me a link to this mobile phone forensics program. It's by https://www.enigma-recovery.com/ The company is based in the UK, does that matter as far as using the software in American court cases?

It looks like a great program if all you want to do is retrieve deleted text messages from iphones or androids, I just didn't know what to tell her about the legistics.

Hi Guys,

I am the CEO of the company who owns Enigma Recovery, I intend to give an unbiased view of our solution for the benefit of the readers.

Firstly our software is logical recovery only and is regarded as the first tool in the box, so for example some UK police forces will use our software to find something incriminating to justify a further more expensive physical forensic investigation.

The evidence our software has provided has been used in court both in the UK and USA, I believe that the data has to be time and date stamped and has not been altered in any way. Depending on the severity of the crime and the consequences to the defendant or prosecutors will then depend on the level of scrutiny and validity of the evidence supplied. To my knowledge no one has disputed the accuracy or validity of the data, but i guess this is due to the cases in question are at low level crimes or civil matters.

Our solution is cheap but limited to logical recovery we do not profess to be a high level forensic software solution but a good starting point.

Software is just a tool.

I don't think it country of origin is very important. What it does is most important, and so is customer support.

I would like to see a program that has regular updates, and a company that gives a quick response to any issues. I would also prefer a company that has in house development, rather than outsourced development.

Location is a long way down the list. The only issue at times may be if help is required with information that must not leave the country, or cannot be seen by non authorised people, who must be eg US citizens.
