Hi all,
I am new to the forum and feeling pretty down about the whole testing process. I took the Guidance Software online course, read Steve Bunting's book, studied my flash cards every day for months and months. Still failed by 2 questions (I think.) 78% on both.
I am interested in the cert because I work in the accounting and law field doing their networks. Have had several forensic cases so far where I can claim recovery of over half a million dollars in stolen money. Yet I can't seem to pass this exam?
One thing that you might say "duh" to is I don't have Encase software. For budgetary reasons I wanted to pass the exam before getting the software. I figured since I took the course, that would be enough.
So my questions are
Do you think having the software would help?
It's been a year since I finished the course. Will they let me test again in 2 months?
Any other tips on what I should do to pass the exam?
My only recommendation is to not post any identifiable information that will associate your username on this forum with who you are in real-life.
Dude - buy the frackin' software or don't take the test.
Pbobby, thanks for the advice. Hope I haven't inadvertently identified myself here. I know the administrator(s) can get my email, etc.
I do not intend on revealing my identity. I have my own reasons, but am curious why you think it would be a bad thing?

AFAIK the whole Encase stuff is very like the Fight Club

The exam is given on the honor system. You may not contact anyone with regards to the exam’s contents or completing the exam except for the EnCE Certification Coordinator. Unacceptable contact is considered cheating and is grounds for immediate failure and exclusion from admittance from future GSI exams.

Just because one day you may be on the stand - and opposing counsel, after asking you to restate your qualifications, digs up a post in which you claim to have failed the exam twice, having never used the software and only reading a study guide.
… but on the EnCE side of things - it is not the best measure of someone's forensics qualifications in my opinion.
It is a check-box a lot of employers look for.
Use the tool, read the user manual, read the books, maybe even take a class.

Ahh yes. Great point.
