Hello from Austria,

I´m new here and hope, that my english is good enough for you to understand my meanings. So a short HELLO into the round and here it comes.

I working as a forensic investigator and using programms like Oxygen, XRY or UFED. Since some months, i also work on such cases for private Reasons and would like to buy a mobile forensics programm. But as you all shure know, this stuff is extremly expensive and for a one-person-company 1000 bugs or more is to expensive for beginners.

I know, there are some programms, wich are in the range of my finance situation. They are know as Katana or Mobiledit Forensic. When i´m looking on the price, Mobiledit would win anyway and i heard, that they are using physical Mems also yet. And here comes my request, and i hope, that you can help me out with some thinkings.

The functionslists are a little bit weary to me and so maybe you can help me out

1) I need a programm, wich can work with Android, IOS and Windows Phone
2) Contacts, Pics, Videos, SMS, Emails, Webhistory
3) Chats like Whatsapp, Skype….

Wich of these programms (Mobiledit/Katana) can do most of this for the best price or would be another programm out of my thinkings, who can do this for 1000 bugs or less ?

Thanks for your help and greetings from
Austria

Chris

hello baumi338

I am using mobiledit forensic software

Mobiledit was a good program until smartphone than it be worst forensic software, you can acces contact, pics, video, sms on android, ios and windows phone but mobil edit cannot export emails, web history and chat data(whatsapp, skype etc.), on days lots of free tool export contact, sms, and graphic. just this data you shouldunt pay any software so I dont suggest mobiledit

Manhyax,

I have had, and continue to have, good experiences using Compelson's MobilEdit Forensic software.

I recently used the tool on an LG G3 Android v. 5.0.1 phone. MobilEdit was able to perform a logical collection and extract and create a report on text messages, call records, contacts, and other information.

MobileEdit, from my experience, handles iOS Mobile Backups very nicely (even password protected Mobile Backups).

On an iPhone 4S mobile backup recently, MobileEdit was able to show all of the of the folders within the Mobile Backup, from which I was able to extract a Kik kik.sqlite file (/root/var/mobile/Applications/com.kik.chat/Documents/kik.sqlite
) to my forensic workstation. I then used Sanderson Forensics' SQLITE tool on the extracted kik.sqlite file to review and report on content.

MobilEdit also has a hex viewer program built in that works very nicely.

Compelson releases updates to the software on a regular basis, from my experience, and are on version 8 now.

I agree that one must have multiple tools to perform smartphone forensics, but MobilEdit Forensic is staying in my tool chest.
