Hi,
I'm starting a Masters in September in Digital Forensics. I was wondering which books I could read to give me a head start and more of an overview on the field or more focused on certain areas? I will be studying computers, mobiles, audio, cctv, photography as well as testimony … There are plenty of books available but I'd rather get recommendations from people within the industry..
Thanks
One of my first purchases would be File System Forensic Analysis written by Brian Carrier. Harlan Carvey would also be on my list, he has numerous resources out. Hope this helps, best of luck.
Forensic Computing Practitioner Guide by Tony Sammes and Brian Jenkinson
Agree with previously mentioned books as well.
Depends what your background is. There are a lot of books and informational sources out there claiming to be "forensic" books only to teach you how to run tools and often in a very limited way.
Recommendations regarding books
* File System Forensic Analysis, by Carrier
* Forensic Discovery, by Dan Farmer, Wietse Venema
Don't go for most books claiming to be "enter your topic here" forensics they are typically full of errors on the computer science part and provide little in-depth understanding. You can always learn how to use tools yourself. Instead go for the system internals
Some suggestions for desktop/server OS
* Windows Internals
* Mac OS X internals
Some suggestions for mobile
* Mac OS X and iOS Internals To the Apple's Core
* Android Hackers handbook
Online source of information
* forensicswiki.org
* https://
I also opt anything on your local law, and some lighter material on Rhetoric regarding argumentation and reasoning.
Thanks, I've just ordered the file system forensic analysis so i'll see how I get on with that. Are there any books specifically related to CCTV, audio and photo authentication that anybody could recommend?
Thanks
