FTK Database not connecting

Hello, was hoping I could get some tips here.

Recently did a new install of FTK 5.4.0 on a Windows 10 box (I haven't used FTK in over a year and my license only works on this version - probably why FTK hasn't been in a hurry to call me back to help me).

FTK is installed on a 256gb ssd, the PosgreSQL DB is on a 2 TB hard drive.

Installation seems to go smooth. I enter a PW for the DB, and the admin user and PW for FTK with out issue. The install completes and FTK launches with no complaints. I can create a case, close it and exit with no complaints. Restarting FTK works until I reboot the computer. THEN it says it can not connect to the database. It asks for the password, which I am sure I am entering correctly, but it doesn't connect…

This has happened on two install attempts on this same machine.

Any suggestions?

"Is the database service starting?"

Will have to check on Monday. Assuming it should be named something like PostgresSQL…

If it is not, how would I start it. And make it start each time the computer starts?

Launch "Services", make sure the service is started, if it is not look to see if Startup Type is set to Automatic (Delayed Start), then start the service.

If the service is running, I would check your firewall settings.

Found the service 'postgres', it is set to start "automatically". I tried manually starting the service and received an error stating the service started and then stopped…

I tried starting the service through the command line using the command "pg_ctl start -D E\pgData91" and got the message "service starting" but nothing changed in the services windows - showing the running services.. and of course FTK still could not find/connect to a DB.

I appreciate the help, I hope what I report here provides some assistance in your efforts to help me.

I'll still be trying to see if Access Data will entertain helping me to and will report back here if they provide a solution.

I did get a hold of someone at FTK Tech support. Since my licensing has expired I couldn't get a ton of help, but the guy still did some assisting. In short FTK 5.4.0 was not validated on Windows 10… and he suggested tapping into the online Postgres 9.1 crowd to see if I could make the DB stable… I don't see me putting that much effort into this since I have a few Win 7 machines I will be now installed FTK on. But I am open to continue troubleshooting this on the Win 10 box if anyone out there feels like giving some tips.

Thanks again.
