A word document is actually a Zip file. Rename the file to .zip and see if it opens.

If so, you may find your text inside the relevant .XML file.

You may be able to extract your words and spaces.

If the Zip does not open, you have more of a problem.

You can download AccessData's FTK Imager, which is a free program.

Once downloaded, you can launch FTK Imager and "Add Evidence" by clicking the green plus sign.

You should add the physical drive your Word file resides on and then navigate out to the file itself.

You should be able to see the contents of the Word file and copy it out as a means of recovery.

Open and Repair function was created by Microsoft developers only for easy corruptions or something like…

But in case your word document is hardly damaged, then you have to dig Internet in search of answers. There are a lot of manual methods from computer geeks, but in cases nothing of mentioned didn't give any positive result, usually I use software..

One of most effective in this sphere is products from Recovery Toolbox, next one Recovery Toolbox for Word was created for impossible corrupted word files, you may test it on its website https://word.recoverytoolbox.com/
