Is it Forensic Focus' habit to ignore people's messages or is it just for me ?
Over the years I have contacted Forensic Focus a number of times. Probably always via http//www.forensicfocus.com/contact (certainly the last time, in December last year).
I have never had the pleasure of a reply. Never.
For instance when the sponsor section on the right was barely populated, I asked what the criteria and prices were to be featured there. No answer.
I have asked in the past what it takes to have a software update (my software) be featured ? Silence.
I have received Forensic Focus mailings mentioning other software vendors' software updates. And I have asked what it takes to be featured that way as well. No reply.
Frankly, I don't know what to think ?

Just an FF member passing by and read your post.
What is your software and can you share a link to it?
Hi,
The software is called 'IsoBuster' and it's not a full suite like some of the other products featured here but it is used quite a lot by Forensics investigators, so it's certainly relevant.

So … when I release an upgrade (PS. I released version 3.9 in December (fyi https://
The General Discussion forum is more for technical Q and A (where I on and off participate as well) and the Forensic Software Forum says 'Strictly no advertising' and I'm sure this would quickly be labelled as such.
Thx for the response.
Whoohoo 😉
I am not in the position to say you can or you cannot do something, but in fairness to Jamie and FF they do offer you a wide scope how to bring your product or service to the attention of others.
One good way is write an exclusive article for FF, aimed at beginners or experienced practitioners (or both), how your product is used in an investigation. Data recovery is OK but readers want to know what gems of info or data were recovered (that are exclusive to your product) and the secure forensic approach it takes to recover those items. For instance, ISOBuster - does it create an audit trial to prove what it has done?; Is it non-invasive (e.g. not leaving a crumb trial or size 10 footprint (Cor! talk about mixing ones metaphors - sorry about that)) or does it write to the media?; And if so, how and what does it record?
What I personally enjoy is testing tools and then seeing whether the interpretation of the output is correct or not. For instance, can you refer to standards, guidelines etc., that provides the interpretation or are some outputs device or company specific? How then would the practitioner interpret the findings?
In the alternative, get your users to ask questions about the products here. I cannot think of any one tool that works with everything.
Hopefully posts should not be stating "buy my goods and services" as FF is a forum for knowledge, skills and experience.
Hope that helps.

No, it's certainly not our habit to ignore any messages - let me follow this up with my assistant editor to see if we can discover what's happened here. In terms of a more practical response to the question about advertising, though, I'll make sure our media kit is sent over to you today but should that option not be of interest then trewmte's response is spot on - non-promotional thought leadership pieces are always very welcome in our articles section.
Kind regards,
Jamie
A very quick update…I can see that we received an enquiry from you last month which was not replied to - I think it fell between the cracks when that responsibility was being handed over to me before Christmas but it was up to me to ensure that didn't happen so my apologies for dropping the ball. Prior to that I can only see one other enquiry from way back in 2012 which I did reply to (by email) but I appreciate that's ancient history now! I'm presuming from your post that there were other messages sent between those two dates to which you didn't receive a response, could you confirm how they were sent (via the contact form? by email? twitter DM?) [Edit sorry, just re-read your original post and I see it's not certain how they were sent so ignore that question] It looks as though they we didn't receive them but I'm not sure why, possibly an overly-zealous spam filter on our side… In any event, apologies for the frustration caused.
Thanks,
Jamie
Thank you Jamie and Trewmte,
My confidence has been renewed -)
And thank you for the email, it arrived.
I'm not a good writer but I will consider writing an article in the future.
Perhaps the Managed Image file functionality in IsoBuster (available for roughly 12 years now already - I just checked) would be a good fit.
Best,
Peter

It would. I've not really noticed it until you mentioned it, but now I see it probably solves one of the problems I often have with old CD media.
So for me it would be a very good choice for a write-up.
Good to hear @athulin
I should make some time available then to write an article !
For the time being, on the subject of Managed Image files

and the closely related 'Managed Clone'

I am not so sure about this being the "right" message to send, if I may
Anybody can be an engineer with IsoBuster.
I don't doubt in the least about Isobuster being a nice, good, tool of course, but from that to make one into a data recovery engineer, there is IMHO a leap.
