... a silly little tip this one, but thought that perhaps it might make someone's day easier ! I'd not heard it before, but I'm sure many may have.

If you are stuck without a mouse jiggler, an optical mouse and an analouge watch will do nicely - place the mouse over the face (or the back if you happen to have an expensive, clear backed watch movement !) and the movement of the hands (or internals) keep the mouse alive. Tested it just now and it works a treat.

Nice one!

I enjoy mechanical solutions to computer problems. Here's two more:

I have used tape on my mouse button when doing a "sweeping" bookmark over a large amount of data.

Use a pencil with a thumb tack in the eraser as a finger and use tape on the other end as a hinge. Place the "finger" on the down arrow or page down and add a bit of weight to the pencil to scroll easily through screens.

I found that inserting two pennies between the up and down arrows on a keyboard will also work. Don't know how forensically sound this is however. You will fill up the keyboard buffer and some memory, but you shouldn't get any disk or registry writes I think.

Works nicely if you have 20 or more computers to examine and potentially do live analysis on and don't want screen savers locking you out. Also a lot cheaper than 20 mouse jigglers...
