Hi,

I am unsure on a few terms with computer/network security standards.

Can anyone explain what is X.800 and ITU-T ?

Do they, and how do they relate to each other?

What are the other X.xxx security definition standards? (xxx corresponds to actual numbers)

Thanks, much appreciated.

Hi Dougie,

X.800 is the security service layer for telecommunications. ITU-T is the international telecoms union.

http//www.itu.int/itudoc/gs/promo/tsb/86261.pdf

http//www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-X.800-199103-I/e

They relate to each other in the sense they are open protocols for interconnection - the latter controls the framework for the former. If you can be more specific, I may be able to help you further.

**remembering my happy days working w/ x.509 ahhhh…. ross

Thanks for your reply.

OK, so if they are definition standards for telecom, then how does it relate to computer security? Is it not for telecommunication security?

And do these security layers have anything to do with the 7 Layer OSI Model?

And are they just terms, that define how security rules should apply to security aspects like Reference For Comments (RFC) to plan a security model for a network system?

Sorry for all these questions, I've only just came across these terms.

Thanks again
