Hi,
Just wondering what people's preferences are, and the justifications behind it.
For me, I've read the self study guide for EnCase on my kindle. I'm now reading the regripper article and since it deals with the common Windows XP artefacts and timelines, I was going to read Harlan Carvey's book
Since it will be something I want to absorb, I'll be flicking through pages to reference back to a paragraph. This will be frustrating on a kindle.
So therefore my choice for choosing a book over a kindle will be ease of page flipping. What about yours?
Yes.
I like physical books which I can take anywhere and everywhere, and less strain on my eyes.
I like electronic books because I can search them faster.
Both?
I like to have a digital copy for reference material because it is so easy to search. However, for learning new material nothing beats a physical copy i can flip through and take notes from.
Physical book.
While Kindle/electronic books have potential, the small format and relatively poor resolution/contrast (of the kindle) and the translation/conversion from standard books to the electronic format is often very poor, so much so that there are cases where I scratch my head over what I see on the kindle, and when I check up in the printed edition I find that something unusual is going on that the conversion format just doesn't handle correctly.
While I might accept this in some kinds of books, it simply not good enough for books of reference.
I prefer digital books.
I usually use my iPad Mini for reading 'em. It's always with me, and it contains my huge digital forensics library. Any book any time )
And, as already been said, it's easy to search for information you need.
I think, physical book are good for collection, of course, if you have enough space in your apartment or house.
That's it )
