A question for the investigators here that do CDR analysis.

What software do you use to analyze the call detail records and plot the results on a mapping software such as google maps or Earth as well as link analysis?

I currently use Excel, google maps, google earth, as well as some of the link analysis tools that come with certain cell phone tools like Lantern but its gets very time consuming especially if you have a lot of data.

I dont mind paying for the software if it does a good job.

I am currently looking at Geotime5 but it is 4000.00.

Is there a comparable software out there that does a good job?

Larry

We use Cell Hawk. Half the price of the product you mentioned and you maintain control of your data. Free trial too and customer service is great.

I have manually mapped records…. ugh

I used Google Earth for a bit and it's okay.

I used Microsoft Streets and Trips (I think that's what it was called?) and it was okay.

I began using Advanced Cell Tracking Systems (www.advancedcelltrackingsystems.com) which is good and the owner, Jeff Rhoton, is awesome and responsive. It offers a great solution and a variety of options.

I now use GeoTime 5 more and more. it's extremely flexible. I can upload CDR's, Cellebrite data, image metadata and map it all. Reports kick out in PPTX so my presentation is often pretty much complete with just a little tweaking. I have taken very data heavy comprehensive sets and created reports and videos which have very easily let the audience understand. This is the best automated solution I have found for complex data sets or multiple data sets. There is a little bit of a learning curve, but after you get through a couple of cases you'll have the software down.

You can try Oxygen Forensic Call Data Expert that allows to conveniently map CDR's fields and view direct and indirect links between callers on the graph.

I know Forensics Analytics in the UK do a great job and can ingest large volumes of CDRs, link to maps, clean up data and make querying v easy using their CSAS product. Not sure how their solution translates to the US and beyond though...http//www.forensicanalytics.co.uk/product-range#CSASDesktop

A good comprehensive solution would be Phone Log by Securcube. It analysis Call Data Records and it correlates them with other data from different sources (like mobile extractions reports or gps/pgx positions).

There's also a hardware module, BTS Tracker, to measure the real cell towers coverage. You can import the measurements on Phone Log and compare the theoretical and real cells coverage.
