USB & Com Ports

Post Posted: Feb 01, 10 16:01

I have several progs that requires selecting a COM Port (1-8) to communicate with a reader but I want to use the USB on my test laptop (HP Compaq nx6125 using WinXP). I seem to remember I read (but I could be mistaken) somewhere that there is a utility that tricks a prog into using USB if in the prog the user selects COM Port 8.

I have searched google/HP/Microsoft with some results but nothing specific.

Does a utility like this exist?

You need a virtual COM port driver.

Of course, depending of what use you need, YMMV. Wink

I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six links or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Douglas and jaclaz thanks for your replies.

jaclaz (Dirty Harry) that was quick.

Appreciate your links, ftdichip was the only one I came across.

Send me your email and I will send to you one of the following:

- SIM Reader (with trace file output)
- SIM Reader tester to see if your reader is working

A kind action deserves a good turn in response to it.

Thank you very much Smile for your kind offer, but I haven't the faintest idea what to use any of those indeed nice tools for. Shocked

Let's say you owe me a (virtual) beer.
