Fifth Vere Software Online Investigation Basic Webinar Offered This Week
Training“Legal Issues with Online Investigation,” the fifth in a series of free webinars offered by Vere Software, will provide an overview of recent court decisions involving online investigations, with an emphasis on child exploitation crimes...

Richard Whidden, Executive Director and Senior Counsel of the National Law Center for Children and Families, will present the course. One key case he will discuss has to do not with child exploitation, but with steroids. “U.S. v. Comprehensive Drug Testing, Inc. describes forensic procedures relative to search and seizure of electronically stored evidence,” said Whidden.

In general, he added, “Much of the case law on electronic evidence comes from child pornography cases because those are what prosecutors take on. So investigators of many other crimes can take important information away from these cases.”

Todd Shipley, Vere Software president and CEO, said, “Legal issues exist for online investigations the same way they do for any other. This webinar will better prepare investigators for what prosecutors need, and how to go about meeting the standard for a higher burden of proof.”

ABOUT RICHARD WHIDDEN:
Richard R. Whidden, Jr. is Executive Director and Senior Counsel for the National Law Center for Children and Families. He has addressed local, state, national and international audiences concerning child exploitation crimes and sex offender management and is a frequent source for media interviews. He also has successfully created and produced a high-quality training program that has trained more than 1,000 law enforcement professionals across the nation on these issues.

Whidden is a former Interim County Attorney for Flagler County, Florida. He also served as Assistant Attorney General of Florida and Assistant General Counsel to the Florida Department of State. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Alabama School of Law and his bachelor's degree from Florida State University. He is a member of the District of Columbia and Florida Bars.

ABOUT VERE SOFTWARE:
Incorporated in February 2007, Vere Software, Inc. designs, develops, programs, and markets software and hardware built upon concepts related to online evidence collection and preservation. Offered to both public and private markets domestically and internationally, Vere Software's WebCase and related products meet the standard for criminal legal defensibility by logging, date and time stamping collected Internet evidence, then authenticating it via one of a number of accepted hash algorithms.
