Objectives
Understanding methods for gathering digital traces from a computer system. Knowledge to assure that information gathered is suited for forensic analysis.
Content
Essential forensics concepts such as volatility and trust. Methods for gathering the maximum amount of reliable evidence from a running system. Methods for recovering partially destroyed information -and making sense of it. Timelining of a system: understand what really happened when. Uncover secret changes to everything from system utilities to kernel modules. Methods to avoid cover-ups and evidence traps set by intruders. Identification of the digital footprints associated with suspicious activity. Understanding file systems from a forensic analyst's point of view. Analysis of malware -without giving it a chance to escape. Methods for capturing and examining the contents of main memory on running systems. Methods for walking through the unraveling of an intrusion, one step at a time.
