Paraben E-Mail examiner lets you import multiple psts and index them for review. The latest version now supports exchange 2003. It also has the option to extract the individual messages with attachments in msg , eml etc. format to a specified folder. Some reporting features and scripting capabilities are nice too.

The only draw back is the user interface takes some time getting used to. But after repeated use it will be second nature.

PM me if you wish and I can guide further.

readpst is an open source tool which can parse pst file and dump its content into an mbox format or seperate format.

the seperate format allows you to recreate the original outlook folder structure on the file system when dumping the email content.

The drawback is that it doesnt support outlook 2003 and password protected pst. also my tests shows that it doesnt recover deleted email (by emptying outlook trash folder) properly.

I have compiled a windows version of this tool using cygwin if you are itnerested.

Of course if I could afford it I would use Email examiner which was used to compare my results (using a demo version).

I feel i may have jumped the gun a little though. I posted the info just before i left work. Whilst on my way to the train station i suddenly remembered that………….

I had opened multiple pst file's, hence the problems i was experiencing!
