Looking to break into the forensics field

Post Posted: Apr 06, 06 03:41

Hi Everyone,

I graduated in 2004 from what was UMIST, and is now the University of Manchester, with a BSc(Hons) in Computing Science. I have been working for almost 18 months in an IT Services company working in various roles including testing and now development.

I have recently come to the decision that IT services is not for me as do not feel I am acheiving anything with the products I am helping to create. I am very interested in breaking into a career in Computer Forensics having researched the scope of the industry and also keeping a close eye on information provided on this site as well as other sources. I feel that the investigative nature of the work involved and the day to day variety of the work on offer would suit me down to the ground.

Does anyone have any information on how I can further my knowledge and experience in order to make myself an attractive prospect to any recruiting computer forensics company out there(particularly in the north west england area) ?

Does anyone know if the newly created Serious and Organised Crime Agency has any provision for recruiting people into the field of computer forensics ?

Thanks for your time and I apologise in advance if I am repeating anything.

Ben

Ben,

You will often need a minimum of 3 years IT experience, preferably at a coding level so as to demonstrate a familiarity with raw hex based data.

There are now a number of MSc courses emerging that you could consider attending as well.

Regards

Ian

Hi Ben,

We are a specialist recruitment organisation working in the computer forensics area. Unfortunately, I am unaware of any organisations looking for people with your background in the NW at this time. However, if you would consider working in London there is currently such a shortage of people with computer forensics experience that a number of companies are now looking at people with your current experience levels. If you could send me an email to David @ appointments-uk.co.uk or call me on 01376 339222 we can discuss.

David.
