Just received my CCE

Post Posted: Apr 07, 11 17:43

Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone could give me their thoughts on what certification(s) could help me to secure my first position in this field? I have graduated from Champlain College with a Bachelors degree, I recently became a CCE and am now wanting to move on to another certification, possibly the EnCe or ACE. Or both.
I'm having a difficult time breaking into the field and have been told it is my lack of experience. So, I've decided one way to help myself would be to complete a few certifications to at least show that I am enthusiastic and passionate about this.
I also download quite a few test images to practice with so I can keep my skills up.
I am also saving money so I that I can attend training and conferences in hopes of networking and of course learning.

Thanks!

I would suggest the first thing to do is look through the forum for previous responses to this FAQ and then come back with any further questions if you have any. Try a search for "certification" in the forums and look in Getting Started.

Hi Tibbs,

Congratulations on the CCE! You are being proactive with gaining qualifications which is a good start but I think the real key to standing out is networking activity and you need to make sure you have a few of the basics covered before you continue:

1, Is your Linkedin profile 100% complete? If your Linkedin profile is outstanding there is a realistic chance of being contacted directly about entry-level roles - trust me, this is one of the first stops for both corporate and external recruiters.

2, Do you write a blog? If no, why not? Use this blog to publicise your job search, to write reviews on courses/texts and to allow your personality to come through. You will be surprised how many people will be interested in the content.

3, Are you on Twitter? If you are a serious job-seeker I don't think you can afford not to be on twitter networking with the #DFIR community.

All you then need is to be in the right place at the right time and that first job will be in the bag! Good luck....

Congrats on the CCE. I think the blog and twitter ideas are good. I also suggest looking at companies like Mandiant, Mantech and other outsourcing companies that might have an entry level/intern slot that can progress into a full-time job.

As they outsource, they are constantly hiring. Those are not the only two, but the only two I can think off of the top of my head. Maybe Kroll as well.
