Hi,

I am thinking of studying to become EnCe Certified. I have completed Encase Computer forensics I & Encase Computer forensics II.

How much study is required to successfully pass the test and become EnCe Certified?

Thanks,
Freedy

I really don't know how anyone can answer that. It depends on several factors that are unique to you.

How well did you absorb the material from the two classes? Did you master them, or do you have a passing familiarity?

How much do you use EnCase? Is it your primary tool that you use daily? Or did you only touch it when you were in class?

How much did the instructors talk about the test? A lot? None at all?

Other than those two classes, what education do you have? Other certifications? Other classes?

What other EnCE specific materials have you read? Other websites? Other books?

I did not take the two mentioned classes. Coming from a college background, and reading the Computer Forensics II book, plus daily use, made the test relatively easy (easier than CCE, harder than ACE).

If you want to gauge your readiness, I would suggest taking the pretests that come with Steve Buntings book. It is on par with the difficulty and subject matter you will see during the multiple choice portion of the test.

I know of no practice test for the practical.

When in doubt, over prepare. The test costs money, so why do anything less than that?

I agree, better to over prepare unless you're going to CEIC anyway - you'll be able to take it there for "free" (after paying the fee to go to the conference). That'll give you a good idea of what you're lacking in, if anything.

You will definitely want to prepare if you're relatively new to computer forensics, IMO.

I recently took Phase II (practical) and just got my results back today. Needless to say I will have to retest in 60 days, though not sure where I went wrong. Study and practice hard. Daily use will help.

Nbartosch, out of curiosity how long was your practical in page numbers? It seems everyone I talk to about it says that it needs a minimum of 14 pages or some ridiculous number.

Mine was somewhere around 30 pages. Way more difficult than the CCE in my opinion.

That's funny, I would say the opposite.

With CCE, you are given an image and you are to conduct yourself as if you are actually doing an exam. That means you get a scenario, and a general objective, but that's it. With the EnCE, you are given a list of questions. When you find the answer, you know it.

So, while the EnCE is longer, mine was 64 pages, I would say the vagueness of the objectives in CCE make it more difficult. You never know if there is more to find.
