Jailbreak has been released for all iOS devices running iOS 6.0+.
Tested it on my iPad (4th Gen) and got cydia working. It's a 5 minute process.

Only a matter of time before vendors are able to add it to their products to get passcode decryption or bypass.

Considering how long the iPad2 has been out I'm not holding my breath for the passcode bypass on the newer products.

I was under the impression that the passcode bypass/hacking was more to do with the processor than the iOS, but I could be wrong, I frequently am just ask my wife )

Yes but there hasn't been a jailbreak for the iPad2. Thus no way to get the pass code.

My understanding is that the jailbreak may allow vendors to load on their own custom firmware temporarily to brute force 4 digit pins (much like they do now for the iPhone 4).

Um the iPad 2 has been able to be jailbroken since iOS 4.2.6 and the 4S since 5.0.1.

I'm far from a huge Apple JB wizard but everything I've been led to believe about bypass of the code had nothing to do with the JB process, but I've never really asked in depth questions as I suspect I wouldn't understand the answers.

Still, I'm eagerly awaiting the physical download and code bypass for the newer devices )

I've found indications that it's been jailbroken, but i have yet to see the actual jailbreak.
Maybe i'm not looking hard enough, but looking on say "Jailbreak.me", it shows the later devices, but says jailbreak not available. http//jailbrea.kr/ also has a lot more "ipad2 jailbreak not availables' and i cant seem to find any indications of the actual jailbreak around.

I'm not a jailbreak wizard either but my understanding was jailbreaking requires them to have found an exploit that allows them greater access to the device. As a result they can get access to the passcode hash and then attack it. Session jailbreak + bruteforce = passcode

Also we wont be getting physical extractions due to the way apple encrypts data on the devices. Apple has indicated that once a file has been deleted (file remains but the encrption keys are gone) then its probably not coming back. The only exceptions are in the sqlite databases (deleted texts, contacts etc are "recoverable" if the command hasnt been issued to flush deleted stuff).

Having said that, I'd just be happy with passcode decryption

I guess you're going to have to trust me on this one, the JB for iPad 2 has been around for a long time and working. Same for 4S as I JB my own 4S some moths ago.

I had a look on Jailbreakme but couldn't see anything about iPad2 not being supported, or any other models. Can you post the link or am I just blind? D and jailbreak.kr just times out all the time.

yeah I'll take your word for it. I hope that whatever has been released recently will help is all

http//jailbreak.me/
Just selecting ipad2 and going through the ios versions shows "Jailbreak not yet available". It shows the same thing for iPhone 4s, so maybe they just dont have the JB there.

Where did you get the JB for your phone?

ahhh slight misunderstanding on my part, i went to jailbreakme.com

I used Redsnow to JB just after I first got it late last year. I updated the iOS a little while back and now onto the latest iOS and have never bothered JB again as I didn't really see any big advantage.

I think jailbreak.me doesn't seem to have the latest info, maybe they stopped updating the site ?
