For anyone interested in new apps that pose a threat to forensics or CI…

I never post new topics but figured I would post about an app that has evolved and now made its way to Android OS devices too.

This post was the first time I heard about the Burner app. I recently took a look at the artifacts left on an iPhone by the Burner app which is designed to provide disposable ‘burner’ phone numbers. I wrote a small blog post about some of the more interesting artifacts and created a python script to parse the information into a HTML report.

Hopefully this gives a little bit of a head start to anybody who encounters the app on an iOS device.

Thanks,

Matt

Azmatt,
Have you tried uninstalling the app and or deleting the app? does this also rid the handset of the database?

Yeah it removes the db. If it was an older iPhone I could have taken a physical image of it and given it a go but not on a 5.

What I would love to play with is Epilog to see if that could have recovered deleted data from the intact sqlite database. I gave it a look with a hex editor and didn't see anything but maybe one of the specialty tools would have had better luck.
