Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone here has worked for law enforcement in the past (in the UK) doing digital forensics and roughly how long their vetting took to clear? I am about 4 months into mine with no end in sight, which is quite frustrating as I am eager to just get the nod and begin a career in the field.

I know vetting is different for everyone, I'm just trying to get a rough idea how long I should expect to wait. Thanks D

I believe it also greatly depends on the actual level and type of clearance and which organism is actually carrying the procedure.

Worked for two police forces in the UK. I seem to remember it taking a couple of months (certainly not four, but this was 2005 and 2007).

As Jaclaz says, it depends on who is carrying out the checks and the level of checks (SC vs DV). Also the nature of the work means they will try to be as thorough as possible, which takes time.

It depends on where enquiries have to be carried out. If they are all in the local force then it would be quicker but if they have to send off to other jurisdictions then it can take a long time.

I had staff with family in other countries and the getting checks done there slowed things down considerably.
