To upgrade to widnows 10 it seems I need a new graphics card.
I am not a heavy graphics user - I rarely play any games so don't need anything liquid nitrogen cooled )
I currently have 2 monitors each at 2560x1440
Any suggestions?

You mean besides that of avoiding the downgrade wink to Windows 10 you mean?
Seriously, most probably in a short period a proper driver will come out for your existing card(s), maybe you don't really-really need to get a new one (unless there are other reasons for the decision).
I have seen reports about troubles with drivers but those should be soon fixed, or do you have *somehow* the hardware listed as "incompatible" with Windows 10?

Yes it's incompatible and also very old > 5 years

PCI Express?
Which version?
DVI or Display Port?
How much RAM?

If the monitors are connected via DVI, double check that the card allows driving two of them, quite a few allow not two DVI's at that resolution (while they support them via Display Port), and as well check needed RAM.
Once you have found the "right" kinds/series of card do check for the Windows 10 drivers, as said they are being reported as being somehow problematic.

slot(s) are pci express on a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H
Monitors are Dell U2713HM which have
1 Dual Link Digital Visual Interface connectors (DVI-D) with HDCP
1 DisplayPort 1.2 (DP)
1 High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)
1 Video Graphics Array (VGA)
I currently have two cards each driving one monitor each at 2560x1440 - ideally I want to replace both cards with a single one that can drive both monitors.

Yep, I had assumed that you wanted a single card, but I believe (I don't have a similar setup) that Display Port have somehow a different (worse) output when compared to DVI.
Most cards on the market will seemingly allow to have two monitors connected one to the DVI and one to the Display Port while many (though they have two DVI connectors) won't allow a dual 2560x1440. ?

Being notoriously cheap, I would mail the guys at Zotac and ask if this one gtx-750-ti

would support your setup, as it is very compact and has what seems a decent price (you most probably want the 2Gb RAM version)

and needs not "liquid nitrogen to cool" (actually has a single fan unlike most of the more powerful ones which have two or three fans and need an awful amount of power from the PSU).
