There must be some form of "disconnection" Shocked , reportedly there are so many people applying that one needs to hurry:

Due to the high volume of applications we receive please be aware that this vacancy may close early, therefore please submit your application as early as possible.

This is a Technical Manager post in an HTU, not a manager of people. You obviously don't know much about how UK LE works.

The schadenfreude on display in this thread is frankly tacky. Northants is a struggling police force, not to mention the county council more generally, and this pay scale is no doubt the best that they can offer for this job.

Fortunately there are people with a damn sight more class who would be willing - grateful even - to take a 35k salary to do important work protecting people, rather than take inflated salaries to protect other people's money.

No matter how UK LE works, or the unfortunate situation of Northamptonshire council and their police force, this was, is, remains and will be pure PR/HR bull§hit (both inside and outside any police force in the world):

Due to the high volume of applications we receive please be aware that this vacancy may close early, therefore please submit your application as early as possible.

Two cases:
1) you ALREADY have lots of applications for this position (and then you need not to place an ad for it)
2) you DO NOT have lots of applications for this position (and thus you post the ad without possibly having ANY idea how many applications you will receive)

If you are so [email protected] sure you will receive "high volume" (how many is "high volume", tens, hundreds, thousands?) applications, simply post a shorter timeframe for submitting the application.

More generally a timeframe for application for a job (and any other "public" selection/tender/request) shouldn't ever be closed earlier than the stated date, both to guarantee the possibility to submit to all possible applicants and to guarantee that the selection is fair.

Say that you expect (why?) 15 applications, on the third day after the ad you already received 16.
Is that enough?
Are you going to limit the choice among these 16 "early" applications?
Or maybe it is possible that on the very last day of the stated period a "perfect" candidate could have submitted his/her CV?
