The iPhone Y may get an USB-C. For unlocking reasons we want to prepare now to find out what is different in the communication inside the USB-A to Lightning and the USB-A to USB-C in respect to the iPad Pro 11/12.9 and the iPhone Y.
Who did forensically compare these two aspects?
The protocol for communication is the same no matter of the USB type. Be aware that only the original Apple USB adapters work properly.
Agree partially, both devices run iOS but they are different related to underlying HW, functional identical. USB protocols are also similar as not interface dependent, but USB-C for sure is different. As iTunes is the Backend for the iDevices Frontends its questionable if the data traffic realy is the same.
Our focus is on the authentication handshakes and validation towards the Apple Activation Lock Status servers.
Is there a websource for the authentication processes inside the cables?
The usb demux for ssh protocol is the same, not depending on the underlying hw. For example, if you make analysis with direct USB-C cable, the results are the same if you use a USB-C to regular USB adapter. The handshake is based on something else )
Apple needs always original adapters (Accessory ID validation process) for reliable results. The AliE parts only for charging or protection. We question ourselfs how great is the probability that iPhone Y gets an USB-C as Apple patented already triangle-size waterproof new designs of Lightning.
