Greater Manchester Police is one of the largest police forces in the UK and is responsible for keeping its diverse population of almost 3 million safe, spread over more than 1,200 sq. km. The Forensic Imaging Unit is a well-established and highly motivated team who are part of the Digital Forensic & Technical Investigation Section of the Forensic Services Department, who are part of the Public Protection & Serious Crime Division.

Are you experienced in carrying out accurate land and Building surveys, with the best survey practice and procedures using traditional and 3D Laser Scanning Technologies?

Have you got experience in producing Survey drawings, 3D and 2D Animations?

Do you have experience with using Architectural drawing software such Autocad and Autodesk 3DS Max, 3D Point Cloud Data software (Processing/Presentation) and Multi –Media software in particular Adobe Creative Suite?

If so we are looking for you to join our Forensic Imaging Unit as one of our Crime Scene Surveyors.

The role will be working within the well-established and highly motivated forensic imaging unit as a Forensic Imaging Specialists.

The role will involve working Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00, supporting investigations, utilising, Communication/Surveying skills and attending crime scenes to accurately record and capture scenes, working under close scrutiny of the media, particularly scenes with a high profile National/International interest.

Managing the best use of resources (surveying instruments, IT software, external consultants), whilst on site and throughout the Investigation, ensuring best value for money.

Attend case conferences to advice Counsel on the best presentation options, Prepare written statements and reports and attend Court to give evidence as an Expert Witness.

The role will be responsible for putting together evidence for court, including Providing specialist advice to Crime Scene Managers, Senior Investigating Officers and Crown Prosecution Service on optimum Surveying and Presentation methods to represent critical Forensic Evidence in the investigation and courtroom process.

The candidate will need to be highly organised and combine excellent technical skills with a methodical and meticulous working practice.

Much of the work is routine but attending crime scenes when deceased or injured persons are present can be emotionally distressing, and therefore it is essential the candidate can demonstrate the ability to show resilience and deal with distressing situations.

The candidate will need to demonstrate dedication, care and attention to detail due to the nature of the work carried out within the role. The candidate will also need to demonstrate great communication skills and the ability to interact with a wide variety of professionals including but not limited to police officers, crime scene managers and court officials.

The candidate will need to have a thorough grasp of GMP Policies, particularly Data Protection, Health & Safety, Codes of Conduct, promote and comply with GMP’s policies on equal opportunities. As well as an appreciation of the importance of their work.
