Hi Folks,

I am trying to recover the logfiles from a Hotmail account that I have been given authority to access. The objective is to analyse IP information at logins.

I was told as the account [access] user, there was a way to recover them from within the email account, but struggling to find any at all.

Does this have to be an application to Hotmail/Microsoft by the account holder to recover such information, or am I missing something - glaringly obvious possibly!!! ?

Thanks in anticipations! -)

I assume you are referring to Microsoft Outlook Webmail since Hotmail does not exist any more and all attempts to access it through the web result in being redirected to Outlook. I use Outlook for my personal email account and have never seen a reference to IP tracking in the settings. Outlook has all the appearance of being a bare-bones type of application. No bells and whistles. You can recover messages with Internet Evidence Finder however I don't know if it is possible to use other methods to pull up the IP address of the PC.

I have not used this software myself for email header analysis, but my mentor uses and recommends it

May I ask who is your mentor? ?

I mean, it would be the first software by Systool ever recommended (AFAIK/AFAICR) by a professional in the field 😯 .

I've been using Systools for years and found them to be excellent…along with Kernel and many others.

Good to know. )

Then the incredible amount of SPAM and astroturfing they generate on half the internet is not connected to the quality of their software, but only to marketing strategies.

I presume they could use some of that budget instead to translate to English their sites, but possibly it is - as often happens 😯 - just me.

A brief excerpt from the site on the link posted earlier

Do you have any quest like from where the email came or who is person made the email inaccessible???

If any then, accessing email header details is only option to go with. With a proper set of instructions with a technically sound tool you will surely find Server details from where the email is sent. Email analyzer from a well-known brand will not bother you to think how to analyze email headers because; such applications are packed with unfailing technologies.

roll

Still, I will personally continue using my sticks (JFYI) wink

to NOT touch that stuff.

I’ve never heard of MSN/hotmail providing access to that sort of detailed information just by logging into your account.

If you are in law enforcement apply for a RIPA through Telecom Liaison (or whatever your organization calls those who contact Telcos, ISP’s etc. on your behalf). There is an MLAT (Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty) in place to handle this sort of international stuff - you are in UK & Microsoft isn’t

You used to be able to get the IP address used (and date) when the account was created. I do not know if they keep the IP address every time you login, but it is worth asking. How long they keep this & how forthcoming they are post-Snowden I have absolutely no idea.

Best of luck
