Good Morning,

Just a quick question to find out if anyone has used either the iP-Box or MFC dongles from Teel Technology for unlocking iphones and the like?

We are interested in buying a few but would like to know how well they work or if there are any alternative products that will do the same thing.

Thanks

We bought both device a couple of weeks ago.

Both work very well for iOS devices running iOS 7, disabled or not. Tried it with iPhone 4, 4s, 5s, ipad mini. Doesnt work with ios6- and ios8.

In fact, it can work with ios 8 but it needs an adapter that reboots the device after 4 password tries. Both devices just came up with the adapters. Havent had the chance to try them yet. At the moment, it doesn't work on disabled ios 8 devices.

The MFC box requires a computer to program it before each operation and to retrieve the passcode once it's found. The IP-BOX is more standalone. It does not need to be reprogrammed continously. You can start or resume a cracking operation using the button on the box. Once found, the code will blink on the box.

The IP-Box is easier to use, but it's documentation and support sucks. The only instructions/tech support is through the GSM forums, by people barely speaking English. The MFC dongle has it's own website with clearer instructions. The technical support is also done through GSM Forums, but the MFC Team is more present on the forums than ip-box.

Also, very important thing is that if the device is configured to wipe after 10 passcode tries, it WILL without any confirmation or warning. So, it is very important to explain the risks to your clients/investigators.

So, it is far from being perfect, but it can get you into devices that you were locked out of before. And it's cheap so, imho, definetly worth the price.

I've been using MFC Dongle successfully for around 2 months now. It enables you to start from a specific number, enter partial password or start with the most popular passwords first so you can greatly reduce the time it takes to discover the password. It seems to get quite a lot of updates and support (on GSM Forum) is pretty good.

Successfully used it on iPhone 4s, 5, 5s, iPad 2, 3 and 4. It can also be used on some HTC's, Samsung's and Macbook's. Amcurrently awaiting the iOS8 update to be delivered (apparently days away…).

Fonefun shop sells this item in the UK, on their website they have a number of Youtube videos showing you how to use it.

Mark,
From my own testing, when the iP-BOX flashes "PC" you need to connect it to your PC and then using the software (which can be downloaded at fonefunshop) you have to redownload the test plan to the iP-BOX again. During my own tests it has only flashed PC if I either disconnect the phone during an unlock attack or after a certain number of attacks. This is fairly easy to resolve but you may have some trouble installing the software as it is unknown and triggers anti virus alerts.

There is a google group setup for general help with the iP-BOX & other similar forensic tools, where test results and recommended settings are also now being shared. You will also find some great user guides here.

If you search for the google group called "TeelTech Forensic ToolBox Group" you should be able to find it but please note this is not my group & you will need to request permission to join.

Hope this helps & good luck!
Matt

Some helpful links to support for the IP Box and the MFC tool

WARNING
If the iOS device you are unlocking has the “Erase Data After Ten Failed Passcode Attempts ” feature activated, the device will be wiped after the IP Box/MFC reaches 10 password attempts.

Helpful Links and Instructions –

Many Thanks to Cindy Murphy for the following White Paper

There are a few others out there that work well……

Also, Cellebrite will be integrating a similar tool into their kit.

Cheers,

B

And you know this first hand? Because tests by Cindy Murphy indicate otherwise. My understanding was that the IP box kills the power to the iPhone before it can register the failed attempt.
