Digital Forensic Investigator - Greater Manchester Police, UK

Location: Bradford Park, 3 Bank Street, Clayton, Manchester M11 4AA
Salary: £29,880 to £34,098 p.a. + Shift Allowance
Hours: 36.25 per week following agreed shift pattern
Contract Type: Permanent

The post of “Digital Forensic Investigator” is a post aimed at individuals with experience working within digital/computer forensics; with experience conducting digital/computer investigations and examinations, as well as relevant digital/computer forensics qualifications and training (refer to the Job Description for full details).

Greater Manchester Police is one of the UK's largest police forces and is responsible for keeping people safe across more than 1,200 sq km. The Force covers the Manchester, Salford, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan areas.

GMPs officers and staff work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to keep almost three million people safe. The Force has 11 geographical policing areas known as Divisions that ensure it provides the best possible service to people who live, work and visit Greater Manchester.

This role will be based within Forensic Services, part of the Serious Crime Division. Forensic Services provides support to front line officers and staff in the recovery and processing of forensic evidence including digital evidence stored on devices such as laptops and mobile phones.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an expanding digital forensic investigations team.

In this role you will conduct intelligence led digital forensic investigations on computers and other digital devices providing evidence and expert interpretation of the evidence in a secure format acceptable to the court.

With previous experience working in digital forensics or in an equivalent technical role using advanced practical and technical skills you will have the knowledge, skills and abilities to conduct forensic examinations of computers and mobile devices. Your communications skills along with your detailed knowledge of computer and phone operating systems you will be required from time to time provide testimony of the evidence you recover to a less technical audience such as a Jury or CPS and various levels within the organisation.

You will have the ability to work as a team to deliver the objectives of the unit and support your colleagues to deliver and effective service to the force.

A Postgraduate Certificate in Forensic Computing or Bachelor’s degree (In technical subject. E.g Digital Forensics, Computer Science, Software Development) is essential for this role.
