Galaxy s5 wont connect

Galaxy s5 wont connect
I'm having an odd problem with an s5. It will not connect to the computer when it is powered on. No connection dialog from the phone or the pc. Tried it on another machine, tried another s5 which connects normally. Tried USB 3.0 and 2.0 cables.
Odd thing is that it will charge (on or off) and will connect as an MTP device when powered off. So it seems that there is something within Android that is preventing it from connecting. Any ideas?

Re: Galaxy s5 wont connect
Seems a driver issue.
Try to use windows7/8 , NOT windows10 (samsung still not update the drivers)
Else, reinstall KIES
Regards

Re: Galaxy s5 wont connect
Thank you for the replies,
This is not a driver issue, the phone is just not recognized as a device by the computer when it is powered on. It charges but there is no dialog on the phone to select USB mode, so the phone doesn't recognize that it is connected either. Judging by the condition (bad) I think it may be a matter of physical damage to the USB port so I'm considering replacing it, just wondered if anyone else had other ideas.
Thank you,

Yeah that happens. I've had phones which charge fine but a data connection wasn't possible. In one case the USB port definitely was manipulated.

Re: Galaxy s5 wont connect
The data pins on the USB port might be damaged. The S5 USB port can be replaced (requires removing the screen from the LCD housing.
Aside from that, you can download USBDReview and view all installed Samsung drivers. Uninstall these and reinstall new samsung drivers (either through the web or let the phone install the preloaded drivers).
You can also connect via download mode and go for a physical image if you're using Cellebrite UFED 4 PC. Connect the phone via Camera mode, MTP, and download mode to install all possible drivers from the device.
