Hello everyone, I'am Nazlin Nurain, works in one of private company in Malaysia.
I have 1 younger sister age 10 years old. Last week is school holiday so she spend much of her time surfing internet to get update with her social media likes Facebook and Instagram.
My concern is as the increase numbers of cyber crime towards children is recorded i'm worried that if my younger sister will be one of the cyber crime victim. She always open her Facebook, and actively reply her friends message in Facebook Messenger.
As she spend lots of time towards social media i'm worried that she lost on control because she online at her room so that my parents and me cannot see clearly with who she is be friends. Lots of reading materials i had read mention that most of the children are forced to make sexual grooming after they make friends in Facebook.
My concern is to make sure my younger sister surfing the internet in safe environment, can someone help me to realize my parents and others parents that social media also can give bad impact towards the children if the children activity are not monitor by them.
I'am really appreciate if someone that have idea, advice, steps, or any actions that can be refer in the way to educate parents on the important to monitor on what their children access in internet.
10 years old children shouldn't have a Facebook account!

The internet is nothing but a (virtual) extension of the (real) world.
It can be exactly as evil as the world is (and also as good as the world is).
Do your parents let your sister go out at night alone?
Do they want to know where she is (and with whom) at all times?
The whole point of "safety" when you leave a kid alone in his/her room (playing or studying, etc. ) is that she is alone and noone can enter that room and put her (directly or indirectly) into danger.
If the kid is left alone with an internet connected computer is exactly as leaving him/her alone in the streets of a (very) crowded city, lots of things to see, lots of people to meet, lots of fun but also some danger.
From a pure legal point of view, not-so-casually Facebook requires a minimum age of 13 (14 in some countries) to get an account (and in my personal opinion the 13 represents a too low bar, 14 sounds better)
https://
Around the world (with some variations, of course) an adult is 18, the semi-adult (when someone while still being "under age" is allowed some degree of independence/responsibility) is usually from 14 onwards
The US are "queer", generally you need to be 21 to drink alcohol in a bar but you can get a license to drive a car at 16 (and conversely you can make an online account at 13).
