I'm looking into portable encrypted NAS/RAID hardware for use whilst onsite and having to imaging a large volume of data.

Having seen the 'relatively' new Tableau TX1 where they recommend a CipherTex portable hardware. I've tried getting in contact with them but received nothing back and all searches seem to lead to their hardware.

So does anyone else know of/can recommend a similar solution?

Assuming you didn't already solve the problem, I have a potential solution for you, one that is much cheaper than the CipherTex option.

Currently I use a Medisonic PRORAID 4-bay enclosure for portable RAID/NAS. It costs about $150 USD (https://www.amazon.com/Mediasonic-HFR2-SU3S2-PRORAID-Drive-Enclosure/dp/B003YFHEAC). Just add 4 hard drives to the enclosure and create the RAID of your choice. It connects to your computer via USB 3.0 and appears as an external volume. If using Windows, you could encrypt the whole volume via Bitlocker, VeraCrypt or whatever you like.

Assuming you needed to connect to it via Ethernet cable, you should be able to get a USB-to-Ethernet adapter and connect it to an Ethernet switch.

Hopefully this helps.

There are dozens of choices on Amazon and Newegg.

Anything is portable if you are strong enough to carry it.

The real question is how do you need to connect it (Firewire, Ethernet, USB or eSATA?) and how much capacity do you need.

@Tacobreath
Your combination of a standard NAS with software encryption is probably the next best option however the reason I was looking for a hardware based encryption is to make the NAS as OS agnostic as possible.

@Passmark

I'm hoping to find something that easier to carry in itself rather than needing to purchase additional cases. In terms of connections I'd be looking a combination of Ethernet and USB
