Enhancing a blurry image due to wrong camera focus

Post Posted: Jun 27, 19 14:08

Hi, I working with a digital image taken by a camera phone and I'm am trying to make a part of it legible, it's a sign, about equivalent to a license plate. The image was taken from inside a car, through the windshield, the blur was caused by the camera focusing on the car's windshield, rather than focusing on the target. The target was not moving and neither was the car. Can someone suggest software and the specific enhancement technique to use in this situation?
Thanks.

Hi Expression8,
Amped Five is GREAT.

Besides Amped (which is a Commercial software and not exactly cheap, nor easy to buy for anyone that is not LE), there are a number of "minor" (and obviously more limited) free or cheap softwares.

In some cases (it costs nothing to try, if it works good, if it doesn't, no harm done) Smardeblur (the old free version is still available) may help:

Regardless of the software that you use, only work with a copy of the image. Also, document the program and the version that you use, any filters you use to enhance the image, and so on. Documenting the steps and software will make it repeatable for anyone the defense will call to repeat what you did to get the same results ,and defend what you did.

I started looking at Amped5, it looks to be very in-depth, before i take the plunge does it have a filter that will work for this specific case?
Thanks!

Have you tried Photoshop? Auto sharpen often works for me.

You can try it for free for 30 days. Then its a subscription from there.
