Dynamic HDD!!!!

Post Posted: Jun 10, 08 20:57

Greetings ,

I pluged a USB external hard drive to my XP machine.

Suddenly Windows asked me to convert the HDD to a dynamic disk.

(I dont see why ???? Especially that the hard drive was working fine on another computer )

Can anyone explain to me this issue?

Thanks

Strange, has windows mounted the volume at all?

I'd get a copy of winobj (SysInternals, now MSFT) and check out the GLOBAL?? items, is there an entry for STORAGE with your individual volume's signature and information?

Just interested in seeing if it's "mounted" by the OS at all.

Hmm, it almost sounds like it's not recognizing the disk..

What happens when you open it in a hex editor?

IIRC when you connect a new disk it will ask you if you want to initialize it then it will ask if you want to convert.

I don't see what the big deal is?

p.s: ease up on the !!!! key.

The big deal is that : after converting it could ask for formating

Also , the hard drive has files on it ...i dont wanna loose them by converting to dynamic

When it asks you to convert it - pick "no"
