I have been asked to research case management tools for our Forensic Practice. Each new case brings with it a new challenge of control and case management. We need to ensure good housekeeping as the exhibits keep piling up. Can any one recommend a suitable product that they either know of or better still, have used. No one tool fits all I know, but small "undocumented features" I can live with………HELP !
Thanks in anticipation

have you every thought of developing your own? Using open source software, you can develop your own case management system to your taste and its free.
For the database, http//
and for the front end http//
There are both quiet easy to use.
Many thanks folks. I will look at these suggestions.
Funkygeek - Yes its an idea that we may need to look at - Thanks.

I have really been leaning towards DIM. Good CoC features and documentation plus some basic digital forensic functions.
Greetings,
And the price isn't too insane. It has risen to the top of my list.

I keep trying to recreate everything it does in other programs and office apps but probably spend more time than it is worth.
However, I was thinking it might be a good collaborative project to do an open source case management program that can run on a web server. Would be nice to have access to cases notes in the field. Spoke to ctendell about it before the Holiday - might be worth revisiting the idea.
Greetings,
I've eliminated all cloud based case management tools from my selection process. Too many of our clients would object, and securing it well enough to make everyone really comfortable would be tough.
Running it on our own web server is still a viable option.

If anyone's thinking or rolling their own, why not try to build or use wiki software such as DokuWiki or MediaWiki? You can run it on your web server and then control access using username/passwords + client certificates.

The project management software I was thinking of is dotProject.net
You can run it on your own internal server or post to a hosted site for remote connections.
