I am currently considering buying USIM Detective and wondered what others pay for it. I have been quoted £800 + vat. 😯

Depending what you need it for.

Buy a UFED for about £3000 and it will give you SIM/USIM and 2200 other models supported and constant updates for new devices.

I use USIM Detective, a good product tends to get more data then some other SIM reading hardware/software on 3G SIMs

Like what? I used a trial version and didn't really got on with it enough to warrant the price.

There are two versions of USIM Detective - Standard and Professional - the Pro version opens doors to much more data and capability.

Like all products it is essential to keep it up-to-date, a matter over which I have no control and if there is something missing in it then tell Quantaq the same way Oxygen, XRY, UFED etc etc get updated. I do not own it nor have a financial interest in the sale of the product, but I did have an input into its forensic and evidential features arena.

- APDU Report
- File integrity checking element
- Examine Acquired Data Microscope

I will be running training courses this year for USIM Detective.

Surely there is a point at which data becomes irrelevant? I know that USIM Detective reports the SIM voltages, which to me seems fairly useless? Greg, I am sure you can correct me if I am wrong on that.

Commercially, you guys really need to learn how to make an offer of what you can afford to buy a product.

Well you have picked out one element in isolation from a sea of information that USIM Detective obtains from SIM/USIM Cards. I can understand that no one might think to make a 'fully' informed commercial purchasing decision based solely upon one element of information being obtained by a SIM reader over that of another reader not being able to do so.

Forensically speaking though, if you are an examiner and you put your head above the paraphet to give evidence, you directly claim to the court you understand the core basics of SIM/USIM Cards.

The important factor with mobile telephone/SIM Card evidence is that you do not get to pick and choose what to know and what not to know; you are supposed to know your subject. Also you are expected to know and advise your client and that means knowing SIM/USIM voltage as part of your core basics and its evidential relevance.

Try SIMIFOR, IM me if your interested. It is fully validated and beats the crap out of usim or anyother sim reading product out there. Trust me. Not only will it read ALL SIM cards, it will enable you to create a clone when the origional sim is pin locked or, if the sim is not present you can upload a base image to fool the handset and gain access. Ask anyone out there who uses it and you will receive the same response. Good luck

Im sure SIMIFOR is a decent product however I think your claims about it are probably a little bit over exagerated.

However I could be wrong. If I am I suggest you get your bosses to promote it abit more and get some free trial versions going etc as you would be on to a winner.

….USIM Detective reports the SIM voltages, which to me seems fairly useless? …

Well I am no expert in this field (far from it), but I am trying hard to learn more. However, just because a feature is there and you cant use it now, it does not mean it is useless. Welldone for the person who put it there. In the future this might (or might not) prove to be a useful feature (and dont ask me how, if i knew i would have made the discovery myself and got something out of it).

But the point is any sort of improvement or extra features as useless as they might look at the time, it might have great potential.

I have a question just out of interest "HOW?" beating the crap out of a product…. hmmmm I cant imagine it )

I couldnt agree more.
