Hello

I want to know if it's possible to detect and subsequently fix a corrupt VMWare image (VMWare says the vmdk can't be recognized as a valid disk) ?

I've tried several methods mentioned on forums and wiki's with no luck.

Has anyone seen anything like this before ?

There is a VMWare SDK with associated information – including information on the vmdk format. That could help you identify the problem. I remember that there are some old formats that are not supported anymore, for example.

The history of the image is probably important is it an image that has worked, but has stopped working? Or is it an converted image that won't work?

Additionally the image TYPE is very important.

FLAT images are much easier to handle than SPARSE, and monolithic much better than maxextent.
