Hullo Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls,
I'm after a recommendation if anyone can help me out - I'd like to get hold of some keylogger software _that I can trust_.
Doesn't necessarily have to be free [ would be nice ! ], but I would like to know that it isn't trojaned in anyway.
Yes, I could do the research myself to test them all (and I'll probably test your recommendation to a degree anyway), I could quite possibly write one too, but you know what I really have better things to do, so, if, by any chance you have used a given piece of software in a job or otherwise, that you trust, I'd be grateful for having the field narrowed. Final note, this would be for a laptop, not a desktop - otherwise I would have just used a hardware keylogger in the first place.
This is request for a _recommendation_ please, not just a list of software that can be found using Google - if you've not _used_ it (or have faith in your source) I can find that much out myself.
Many Thanks in Advance.
spectorsoft Spector pro.
Used it. Works like a charm. A mean, nasty, sneaky charm, but like a charm.
Thank you -) Looks ideal.
My vote is against spectorsoft.
One issue with them (although you can change this, and many many people don't) is the default 3 key combination to pull up the interface.
There is a lot of posted information about spector and some people just hold down 2 of the popular keys like say ctrl-alt- and hit all the other keys to see if anything happens. Takes all of 30 seconds. Or hold down ctrl-shift- other keys to see what happens. Once that happens your adventure is over and the person now is incredibly more cautious and erases tracks they normally would not erase. Oh, and if they have a firewall running in tight mode, your data might not get through to you and you could get tagged that way also.
As far as writing one, maybe, maybe not. The key to the writing goes towards detection by persons and by things like AV, SW, MW, etc. takes a lot of time to craft a tool which can pass by all those.
Spector works great. Used it a couple of times. However, since it's a commercial tool, it IS detected by some Anti-Virus software as a threat.
If you're working in a context that having the keylogger detected would have important consequences (like a criminal investigation), you might want to take the time to do some further testing (like doing a mirror copy of the target drive in the field, bringing it back to the lab, mount it in a VM and test if your keylogger is detected by a security software on the machine. ) If you're not working in such environment, have fun!
You might want to check this site for good reviews of keyloggers http//
Thanks guys for all the feedback. And that's a good link - thanks.
It's more for internal disciplinary purposes, but none the less, having it detected would be … problematic … So forensicakb, warning noted.
Cheers.

I use Spectorsoft 24/7… GREAT TOOL! Make sure to use the CNE version and you might even stop doing traditional forensics. If you have any specific questions email me.
Thanks
How about this Amac
I would only trust a keylogger that you compiled yourself.
You've also not specified how you're going to recover the logs, and most importantly if you are acting lawfully.
