New To Forensics

Post Posted: Feb 10, 06 21:31

Hello all,

Wow, it's great to see this site, I stumbled upon it, it's like a breath of fresh air. I am new to Computer Forensics and taking the Encase introduction soon. I am taking this course on my own and not with a company, do you think this is a good investment on my part, money wise?I am willing to go up to the advanced course. Is there any work out there? I have done some small investigations in the USA, but just come back to the United Kindom and want to work for myself. Any info will be kindly taken, any help from you would be much appreciated.

Thanks all

Hi Carol,

Out of interest, are you taking the Guidance course in Liverpool?

Hi Carol

Well done on taking the inititive and putting some investment into training. Encase is a great tool but not a total solution, research others such as FTK (as a primary alternative), Prodiscover, X-Ways and others.

A great way to learn is to follow some of the threads on these forums, even on some of the more advanced topics no-one would mind a request to explain something in simpler terms.

All the best with your training

That's good advice from Nick. I find playing around with the open source forensic software out there is also a good learning experience.

Keep an eye out in these forums for possible job openings too, they do crop up now and again.
