Can anybody shed some light on exactly what this is. Its a little vague!

knowledge of embedded systems will encompass hardware, firmware, software development, interfacing, the development environment, testing and debugging. You will be able to look at a previously unseen embedded system and identify the processor, memory and bus protocol and thus be able to say where the data is stored and how it could be extracted

What is an embedded system exactly? Like an EPOS? Cash Machine?

Thanks.

Generally this is to examine and research electronic devices that have their own operating system that only presents a menu to the operator or has limited user programming. So yes epos terminals would come under this. We are looking for people that would understand what a JTAG interface is for example.
Anything really that has a microprocessor and storage and is not supported by mainstream forensic tools by virtue of having a Windows/Linux environment.
Some examples being.
Industrial Controllers, Vehicle electronics, security alarms.

Actually looking at the wiki entry for embedded systems, it better than my last reply.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...ded_system

Is there a typo in the salary here?

No, that's correct according to the link in the OP. But there is a London Allowance of £1,883 to add to that.

This is off topic but SteakandEggs, can you expound a bit more on the compensation in London, UK of forensic investigators?

What is a "£1,883 London allowance"?
Is this monthly, making it £36,118+ (12 x £1,883) for a year?

I am simply curious regarding European salaries for forensic investigators.
I might just move over there, if the numbers are better Mr. Green
