SUMMARY:Data Capture Wizard: Acquisition & Storage Media – CPD Short Course
DESCRIPTION:Think acquisition is simple? Think again. TPMs are gatekeeping encryption\, IoT devices are breeding like cyber-rabbits\, and even your fridge is now a potential crime scene. Welcome to 2025\, where digital forensic acquisition is a battlefield\, and you need the right tools\, skills\, and sheer cunning to collect evidence effectively. \n\n\n\nThis five-day course is your hands-on\, practitioner-led guide to mastering the modern acquisition landscape. Every topic includes purpose-built\, interactive practical exercises\, using appropriate low level tools (yes\, including SDRs and chip-off methods\, because sometimes you have to get that hands-on). \n\n\n\nWhat’s on the menu? \n\n\n\n– The Generalised Acquisition Framework – ensuring scientific rigor (already successfully used in cases worldwide!)– Verification & Advanced verification – because just acquiring isn’t enough anymore– Memory acquisition – RAM\, volatile storage\, and those sneaky artifacts– Servers\, networks\, and cloud – because the evidence isn’t always on a single device– Web & social media – OSINT meets forensic extraction– Mobile phones & portable devices – everything from burner phones to encrypted nightmares– Unusual devices – smartwatches\, medical devices\, even games consoles– CCTV – cracking DVR systems & video forensics– IoT – Washing machines\, fridges\, toasters\, and rogue vacuum cleaners included– Data in transit – capturing the evidence before it disappears– Wireless acquisition – untangling the chaos of Wi-Fi\, Bluetooth\, and more– Low-level hardware acquisition – chip-off\, JTAG\, ISP\, and beyond– Vehicles – because cars are computers now– Equipment interference – when you need to get extra creative– ISO and FSR compliance strategies \n\n\n\nWhere’s the fun happening? \n\n\n\n– Work in our custom electronics lab (170+ seats)– Get hands-on in a large-scale technical teaching lab (170+ seats)– Experiment in an anechoic chamber – because sometimes you need a Faraday cage for science \n\n\n\nTaught by practitioners who are also academics\, this isn’t just theory\, it’s real-world\, trial-by-fire\, hands-dirty low level learning. \n\n\n\nCost: £3\,700 per studentBursaries available (but limited!) \n\n\n\nIf you want to stop acquisition from being the nightmare that keeps you up at night\, this course is for you! \n\n\n\nTo Book or Ask Questions: \n\n\n\nContact the Sherfox Team (ECS @ UoS) on ecs.digital.forensics@soton.ac.uk

SUMMARY:Digital Forensics Challenge 2025 (DFC 2025)
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Korean Institute of Information Security and Cryptology(KIISC)\, the Digital Forensics Challenge 2025 (DFC 2025) aims to expand our knowledge of digital forensics and to contribute to this field. Now in its eighteenth year\, it plays a significant role in developing new technologies and training forensic experts such as researchers and graduate students in the field of information security. \n\n\n\nThe challenge consists of two main categories: the Digital Forensics Challenge and the Tech contest. Participants can take part in one or both competitions. \n\n\n\nIn the Digital Forensics Challenge\, an answer sheet for each problem should be submitted in a detailed write-up. Participants are free to solve and submit answers to a total of 20 problems\, which will be released all at once\, anytime before the submission deadline. \n\n\n\nIn the Tech Contest\, participants are allowed to freely suggest new forensic analysis methods. In this project\, you are more than welcome to offer us all kinds of fresh\, new techniques that haven’t been published before. The goal is to identify new opportunities to help investigators discover clues in solving real cases. All submissions must include a detailed response that explains the type of information stored and how it can be reproduced.

SUMMARY:2025 Digital Forensics Summit
DESCRIPTION:The 2025 Digital Forensics Summit will look at: \n\n\n\nThe vision for Digital Forensics in the context of Police Reform \n\n\n\n\nWho is leading on a national strategy for improving digital forensics capabilities?\n\n\n\nHow will NCoP integrate with other organisations working on digital capability in law enforcement?\n\n\n\n\nImplementation of the vision \n\n\n\n\nHow can we ensure a consistent delivery model? Will there be central mandation or ‘strong guidance’?\n\n\n\nHow do we meet the challenge of differing digital maturity levels across forces?\n\n\n\nIs the vision sustainable given the costs of digital forensic licenses and capabilities as well as the reliance on commercial industry tech solutions?\n\n\n\n\nThe changing landscape of technological advancement and the impact of AI – opportunities and challenges \n\n\n\nHow are concerns around legality and privacy being addressed? \n\n\n\nHow do policing tackle the increasing complexity of digital investigations and what is the regulators role in supporting this? \n\n\n\nHow will NCoP work alongside the FSR in its support of the legislation framework for digital forensics? \n\n\n\nHow does policing keep ahead of new technologies which can very rapidly render police capabilities obsolete? What is the approach to R&D in this area which straddles policing and other security services?

DESCRIPTION:FOSDEM 2026 will take place at the Université libre de Bruxelles\, Belgium\, on Saturday\, January 31st and Sunday\, February 1st\, 2026. If you’re building\, breaking\, or bending open source forensic tools—or just doing weird and wonderful things in the world of digital forensics—we want to hear from you. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re hacking on memory parsers\, wrangling cloud artifacts\, reverse‑engineering obscure formats\, or just have a good war story from the trenches\, this is the place to share it. Funny titles encouraged\, demos welcome\, and yes—if you’ve ever dropped chain of custody or Locard’s exchange principle into casual conversation\, you’ll feel right at home

SUMMARY:Digital Forensics Workshop / ITASEC26
DESCRIPTION:This workshop provides a forum for digital forensic consultants (CTU/CTP)\, industry\, law enforcement\, judiciary\, and academia to discuss current challenges and future directions in Digital Forensics. Unlike existing events with a mainly academic focus\, it emphasizes practical issues and solutions relevant to real investigations. The program will explore limitations of current forensic tools and methodologies in areas such as mobile forensics\, memory and computer acquisition\, IoT\, and open-source tools. Emerging challenges will also be addressed\, including the forensic analysis of AI-generated content (e.g.\, deepfakes) and the application of AI techniques to support investigations. Both technical and legal perspectives will be considered to ensure solutions are effective and admissible in court. The workshop will include introductory talks\, thematic discussions moderated among professionals\, and paper presentations. Submissions are encouraged on novel methodologies\, guidelines\, and protocols for the forensic analysis of mobile\, IoT\, and AI-related data.
