[Solved] Help to Read a 2TB Barracuda Hard Disk for a broken HP Z4 Forensic Workstation

My HP Z4 Xeon Forensic Workstation cannot start. I would like to access cases processed and stored in a 2TB Barracuda Hard disk. I connected the Hard drive to my computer using SATA-USB connector but the hard drive is not showing among the drives in My Computer. Anyone who can assist?

Regards,

MM

Do you have a chance to use Atola Insight Forensic or Atola TaskForce?

Maybe some of your contacts in other organizations have these hardware tools at their disposal.

@mokosiy We are currently using Magnet Forensics. I have some processes cases in that disk that i need to access and copy to a different storage drive.

I would try connecting the 2TB drive to a different workstation running Mac or Linux OS and also try different SATA to USB connectors to rule out USB port failure on your workstation or hardware failure with the SATA to USB connector.

Is the 2TB drive an SSD drive or traditional platter drive?

If it is a platter drive and you can hear it spin up and vibrate, the drive *should* show up in Mac OS under Disk Utility for example, if there has not been hardware failure with the external 2TB drive itself.

** Agreed that best option is to attempt to first image the 2TB drive using an Atola or Tableau TX1 type forensic duplicator if one is available; these devices allow one to run drive health check tests in addition to imaging drives.

Just replace the drive and restore from backup.

You do keep backups right?
