MS SQL?
Postgres?
Oracle?
This is for a stand alone install on high end hardware.
Single box install, separate volumes on SSD, 64 GB RAM, 16 real cores.
Our goals would be (in order)
#1 - STABILITY
#2 - Speed
#3 - TCO Total Cost of Ownership
Thank you in advance.
We use PostgreSQL and it works OK.
I tried MS SQL and it was generally a bit quicker than PostgreSQL. Case management (creating, deleting, etc.) was much more stable and quick using MS SQL.
We still haven't moved over to MS SQL because of the cost of licenses and the time needed to reconfigure all of our machines.
If you want to keep your costs down forget SQL
If you had an FTK 3 subscription and kept it current then you are licensed to use the oracle install that came with it. Other wise go for Postgress
Having said that, I never got round to performance testing in anger, the above advice comes from chating with various access data people and my own testing.
There is no reason to even consider Oracle. AD has essentially abandoned it as a database. As such the performance issues with Oracle will never get fixed. If you do not want to pay for a database, use Postgress. If you want the fastest database that is receiving the most attention from the vendor, MS SQL.
Thank you all for your help.
We are going to go Postgres for now.
I really appreciate your input.
