FYI, I received this in e-mail, today, and am reposting it (unedited) for informational purposes only.

My only relationship to the product/developer is as a satisfied customer but I can say with certainty that this was the best $20 USD that I have ever spent, professionally (I did spend $18 on a haircut the day before a trial which paid off but the problem is that I have to keep paying for haircuts.)

Hello everyone,

Hope you're all doing well.

A couple big announcements in this update Internet Evidence Finder v3.0.0 has been released, as well as a new program called Facebook® JPG Finder.

IEF v3.0.0 has number of new features

10 new searches added! (Limewire® ver 5.3.6 Search History, Limewire.props files, IE8 InPrivate/Recovery URLs, Yahoo!® Messenger Group Chat, Yahoo!® Webmail email, Hotmail® Webmail email, AOL® Instant Messenger chat logs, Messenger Plus!® chat logs, MySpace® chat, Bebo® chat
Log file created now containing search details and results
Added option of selecting an entire folder (and optionally, sub-folders) instead of a single file
Multiple Yahoo!® Messenger user names now supported - one report file for each user name is created
Results are now written to file as the search progresses, to a CSV or TSV file

If a logical drive is selected and Yahoo!® Messenger chat is being searched for, IEF will check the folder structure to check for possible Yahoo!® Messenger user names

And more, see the website for the full list http//www.jadsoftware.com/home/ief.htm

The Excel output option has been removed to make report output more reliable due to issues with different versions, date problems, and line number limitations. Additionally, writing to CSV/TSV files allows for results to be written as the search progresses.

In the interest of keeping a high standard of accuracy for IEF results, the decision was made to remove the v5.1.3 and v5.2.13 Limewire search due to some issues found with it during ongoing testing.

Due to the amount of time required to develop and support IEF, it is no longer free. However, it is still free for law enforcement and people who donated $20 for IEF v2 get a free upgrade.

Please see the purchase page for details http//www.jadsoftware.com/home/purchaseief.htm

The Facebook® JPG Finder (FJF) is a tool that searches a selected folder (and optionally, sub-folders) for possible Facebook® JPG images. These images are identified by running several filters on the file name. The file name contains the Facebook® user/profile ID and therefore can indicate which Facebook® profile the photo came from.

For information and to download FJF please go to the website http//www.jadsoftware.com/home/fjf.htm

Let me know if you have any issues, questions, or suggestions, and thanks again to those who have purchased IEF.

Best regards,
Jad

Sean,

Do have a sense for how this product compares against NetAnalysis (http//www.digital-detective.co.uk/netanalysis.asp)?

They don't do the same thing really. IEF is good for finding fragments (like facebook messaging) and netanalysis good for interpreting the browsing history.

I agree. I use both in exactly the way that you mention.

Thanks guys, I wasn't entirely sure how much overlap there was between the two even after reading the product pages!
