Hi, All. I am trying to find files that were replaced (rather than deleted). Do any of you have software suggestions? "Recover My Files" found some of the pictures I'm looking for, but not all. The strange thing is (in time sequence), it found the first few pictures and then the last few, but it's missing the ones in the middle.

These pictures are of the day my son was born, so I am desperate to find them. I hope you don't mind that I posted here.

Thanks for any advice you have.

Tina

Hi Tina, it may entirely possible to recover all your deleted files even if they have been replaced by the same named files. And, yes they have been deleted. It might have been possible to simply rectify the problem at the time it happened; however if your machine has been switched off and on since the situation becomes more complicated. What you require is data recovery.

I would advise you not to use the computer because your missing data now occupies an area of the hard disk file system known as unallocated clusters. By using the computer however infrequently you are possibly overwriting this area with new data. I understand that data recovery may seem expensive, and you may wish to try a DIY alternative, using some software downloaded off the internet perhaps, but to do for files that are obvioulsy precious to you is… IMHO asking for trouble, especially if you are not that confident with computers.

My advice (for what its worth) would be to employ the services of a professional.

P.S. What about the camera? Is there are chance they are still on there, it might be a possiblity to recover data from the flash card from the camera. Especially if it hasn't been used that much. I've had success in the past with digital camera memory cards so I wouldn't rule it out.
